Sole InTension is a project inspired by material experimentation. The concept itself came about after testing the behaviors and limits of various LED filaments. The work is meditative, expressing intentions of beauty, fluidity and elegance. Moments of frustration arise at times as the filament continues its’ intended movements. Eventually it stretches itself too thin and buckles. In this sense, a failed intention results in personal tension, an impasse in the literal form of a knot. This tension continues to build-up and become concentrated at the source of the impasse. The structure has been prepared to self-release before the element can go too far and cause itself harm. As the element is singular, its’ frustration is not shared. The intentions are self-manifested. The tensions are self-inflicted. Only the structure prevents the filament from self-destruction.
