The Walking Chair

2025

Developed at my studio in Montpellier, I repurposed a found object by integrating pneumatic pistons. The result is a walking chair, an otherwise familiar domestic object brought to life in an unexpected and unsettling way. Its erratic movements give it an uncanny, almost sentient presence, provoking a range of emotional responses: fear, surprise, and humor. A proximity sensor is integrated for exhibitions, allowing the chair to react suddenly when approached, heightening the sense of surprise and interaction for the unsuspecting visitor.

This work is approached with a brutalist methodology in mind. It is deliberately conceived using a minimal and familiar object, which is then subjected to a deconstructive process that gives it new life and behavior.
